All firms enjoy the confidence of their clients and suppliers to a greater or lesser degree. There are groups of companies, however, which manage to retain the highest level of confidence, that of the general public to their sector, even when they fail. Amongst such privileged sectors are financial institutions. Using banks as an example, the author talks about the problems involved in gaining, retaining and using the confidence of the general public.
